A few months back, my sons inadvertently installed an infected file into their ageing
Windows XP system. Another 2 months after the infection started, they lost all internet connectivity and couldn't get it back. Three weeks ago, when they were contemplating terminating their useless
DSL connection, I got in touch with my good friend,
the Village Idiot Savant to help them out. I couldn't ! do it myself, you see. So the week before yesterday, he dropped by to work on their PC. About 2 hours after that, it was all done and fixed. Good as new, well, almost. The hardware was wheezing already. Like I said, the system's really old. 1999 vintage, can you imagine. Now you have to understand that prior to all the viral infection drama and they still had internet connection, we were already talking about
Ubuntu through our regular chats but the boys vehemently protested. No, they wanted Windows. They don't want anything to do with any other OS out there. It's Windows or bust. That is, until the weeks without internet and any viable assistance from anyone eroded their resistance to the point of zero. After the Village Idiot Savant installed and configured
Ubuntu on their PC for them, the boys changed their mind. They
LOVED Ubuntu. Absolutely. And since they're back online, they proceeded to change their
Facebook profile pictures to reflect their new found evangelism. They also absolutely love the fact that their resurrected system will mostly be impervious to viruses. Here's my son's testimony sent via
SMS...
the two usb devises you sent back are perfectly working in our new cpu and also a new keyboard thanks to uncle dominic, B-) but the computer is not windows anymore :-( but also the new cpu is virus proof like a mac :-O well i guess christmas came early this year huh?! :-D :-) :-P
The only thing they have to figure out now is how to run Grand Chase on it. :D Oh, the Village Idiot Savant also gave them his old desktop to use. Christmas definitely came early for my kids this year. Thank you so much,
my friend.
